Yesterday was the official end of my first week at my new job. It was also my birthday, and being able to leave work at 2pm makes it a very good Friday. I ended up going back to my old job to hang out with some of the friends that I’ve made over the years. It was a great way to spend part of my birthday.

After spending my Birthday with them, they all took me out to Brunch earlier, we celebrated with another colleague of mine whose birthday was today. Happy Birthday Shiao (if she ever reads this blog).

Most people have been asking me how my first week was. Well, it was like most first weeks. I’m new, I don’t know anyone besides the people who brought me in, and I’m trying to learn the ropes. I have had several meetings with people trying to figure out what it is that I need to do. I dealt with SharePoint quite a bit more than I expected, but it was a headache like I expected. I have been given a lot of access and I feel a whole lot of pressure because they have high expectations for me.

I don’t mind high expectations but just like any normal person, it’s a lot of pressure. This results in me wanting to please everyone all the time and if I can’t, I get stressed out. Hopefully over the next few weeks, I’ll get used to everything and get enough of an handle to stop stressing and do this job like I did my old job, easily with confidence.

One thing I really like about my new job is that since it’s downtown Manhattan, it has a lot of lunch options. I think it’s too many to choose from. So far I’ve had lunch there for four days and I had lunch at four different places. Can’t wait to try something new next week.

Right now, I am enjoying the second day out of the three day Labor Day weekend. I woke up very early to go to brunch, can’t wait to sleep in until noon.
