On Sunday April 5th, I attend the New York International Auto Show at the Jacob Javits center in Manhattan. It was my first time attending an auto show and I must say, it was very much enjoyable. I had a lot of fun looking at all the cars that I can’t afford. Of course there are a few that I could afford, but it won’t happen for a while (maybe).

My favorite car was the Toyota FT-1. It’s the successor to the Toyota Supra and it looks awesome.

It looks like I hibernate from the end of Daylight Savings until it starts back up. Truth is, I have been extremely busy with other projects and had to put my little portal to my life on hold for updates.

But anyway, as the topic says, Daylight Savings starts up tonight. You know what that means…we lose one hour! I really hate losing an hour from my weekend. Daylight savings also messes with my astronomy because it adds sunlight to the end of the day. It’s not like I’ve been out stargazing lately, but still, I feel like I need to mention it.

Remember to set your manual clocks forward. And if you have digital clocks connected to the web, don’t worry. Happy Daylight Savings.

Today marked the end of Daylights Savings Time for 2014. I usually follow it but today, I did not even know about it until I woke up this morning. I should use the word ‘morning’ lightly.

I wake up and look at the clock on my wall and it’s 1:30 PM. But then, I look at my phone and it’s 12:30 pm! I saved an hour.

This just means that the sun will rise earlier and set earlier until Daylight Savings starts again in March 2015.

Remember to set your clocks back an hour! I am thankful for getting an hour of sleep without asking for it.

Some of you may already know that I have been doing video tutorials on YouTube for several years now. Originally, I did tutorials on C++. But earlier this year, I started doing tutorials on Microsoft Excel 2013. There are a few reasons why I made the switch.

First reason is my career change. Although I’m still in technology, I have not used C++ to do much in over two years at the time. The only ‘C’ language programming I did was with the Arduino and unfortunately, I am still rusty with it. Ever since I started working at a college as a Technology Trainer, my Excel skills have skyrocketed, mainly because I did many in-person workshops for users; students, staff, and faculty.

Second reason is that I have become very familiar with Excel and I wanted to showcase it as well as teach others what I know.

Third reason, Microsoft Office 2013 was just released, even though most of Excel remained the same, the layout changed and some improvements were made and I thought it would be useful to showcase that as well.

If you want to view my Excel tutorials, you can either visit my YouTube channel’s playlist or visit the Easy Programming page here: Excel 2013 Tutorials

Also find the YouTube playlist here: Easy Excel 2013 Playlist by Nazmus

At this moment, I only have 5 tutorials up, making videos is very difficult when you work 60 hours a week. But I will try to get at least two or three more tutorials up by the end of the year (my upper goal is 5), let’s see if I can achieve that goal.

Enjoy the tutorials! If you have any questions, please ask in the the tutorials or use the contact form on my website at EasyProgramming.net and ask.

A few months ago, Google’s “Made W/ Code” had a special where you can order your own personalized 3D printed bracelet. There were so many possibilities, but I ended up writing my name. Thought it was appropriate for this website.

Well here it is:

3D Printed Nazmus Bracelet

I have always wanted a 3D printer and holding this little thing makes me want to get one even more. Just wish I had room to put one. While I wait to get more room (possibly move residence), I can wait for the price of 3D printers to go down.

Anyone else get the Made W/ Code bracelet?

Yesterday was the official end of my first week at my new job. It was also my birthday, and being able to leave work at 2pm makes it a very good Friday. I ended up going back to my old job to hang out with some of the friends that I’ve made over the years. It was a great way to spend part of my birthday.

After spending my Birthday with them, they all took me out to Brunch earlier, we celebrated with another colleague of mine whose birthday was today. Happy Birthday Shiao (if she ever reads this blog).

Most people have been asking me how my first week was. Well, it was like most first weeks. I’m new, I don’t know anyone besides the people who brought me in, and I’m trying to learn the ropes. I have had several meetings with people trying to figure out what it is that I need to do. I dealt with SharePoint quite a bit more than I expected, but it was a headache like I expected. I have been given a lot of access and I feel a whole lot of pressure because they have high expectations for me.

I don’t mind high expectations but just like any normal person, it’s a lot of pressure. This results in me wanting to please everyone all the time and if I can’t, I get stressed out. Hopefully over the next few weeks, I’ll get used to everything and get enough of an handle to stop stressing and do this job like I did my old job, easily with confidence.

One thing I really like about my new job is that since it’s downtown Manhattan, it has a lot of lunch options. I think it’s too many to choose from. So far I’ve had lunch there for four days and I had lunch at four different places. Can’t wait to try something new next week.

Right now, I am enjoying the second day out of the three day Labor Day weekend. I woke up very early to go to brunch, can’t wait to sleep in until noon.

I have kept this a secret for almost two months ago. But tomorrow, I am starting a new job at another college in Manhattan. I spent time with some of my dearest colleagues and friends from work last Friday night after work. They were absolutely awesome, treated me to a steak dinner, then we hung out some more.

Tomorrow I start a new journey…a journey that requires me to dress up every day. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against dressing up, but I would prefer to go in jeans and polo shirts.  And I definitely don’t enjoy dressing up when it’s 85 degrees outside.

My new title will be Software Coordinator and Contracts Manager. This will be new to me, and because it’s new, it sounds exciting to me.  Can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds for me.

On August 19th, I went to see Linkin Park live at Nikon Theater at Jones Beach. They have been my favorite band for over a decade and this is the first time I’ve seen them live. I must say, they really know how to put on a show.  Their light show was also amazing. The concert was 5 nights ago and I still feel hyped and I can’t wait to go back and see them live again whenever I get the chance.

They finished the concert with the song “Bleed it Out” – released in the album “Minutes to Midnight” back in 2007, one of my favorites. The end of the event actually finished with Chester Bennington accepting Mike Shinoda’s ice bucket challenge for ALS awareness and challenging everyone from 30 seconds to Mars and AFI.

Below is a gallery of just a few pictures that I took during the concert. I recorded a lot of their songs, but I won’t be uploading those because you can hear me sing in the background and I am NOT a singer. I took many more pictures, most of them blurry because I either used my phone or my Canon point-and-shoot camera (not my Canon DSLR).

30 Seconds to Mars also performed. Jared Leto and the rest of the band put on a great show as well. He’s very funny and near the end, he turned the show into a pretty good comedy performance with their music. This is a band that I really want to see again. I’ve been listening to a lot of their music

AFI was the opening band. They also did great and I think this band has a lot of potential and I would like to see them live again as well.

If you were at the event, feel free to share your pictures! I’d love to see them.

Finally found some time to edit the favicon of this blog, it’s just an orange ‘N’ which you can see in the browser’s tab/header. Probably won’t get any feedback on it but if you have any, feel free to share.

I’m not a designer at all so this simple thing took me almost half an hour of thinking and poking around Photoshop. This time does not include the 15 minutes I spent trying to get the right color and shade. Once I figured that out, took me about 30 seconds to create the file, upload the .ico file, and update the header file of the blog to include it in the design.

I’m always trying to do some work on this site, if you see anything broken or have any suggestions as to what I can do, feel free to let me know, I always appreciate feedback.

A few months ago, I set up a YouTube channel called Nazbotics. I have several published videos, they can all be found in the Channel. here is one that I am very proud of. This video is basically me controlling two servo motors remotely using two Arduino Unos. It’s very simple and it kinda looks like robotic arms. This is pretty much the precursor to how robotic arms would move.

I do have the code somewhere, but I improve on it in my later videos, be sure to check the channel for those. I’ll post them to this blog slowly to showcase what I’m learning in the world of robotics and Arduino. It’s fun and if you’re a techy like I am, I’d definitely recommend investing in an Arduino. Arduino Uno goes for around $33 on Amazon.
